FIELDS OF STUDY
AESTHETICISM AND DECADENCE
Studied from comparative approaches, with a special focus on the relationships between British and Italian culture. Literary genres and modes of the British fin de siècle. Ecocriticism as applied to the two periods is another interest. Privileged authors are Walter Pater, Oscar Wilde, and Vernon Lee.
INTERCULTURAL STUDIES
Fin-de-siècle interrelations between British and Italian culture; the influence of the Aesthetic Movement on Gabriele D’Annunzio and Giovanni Pascoli; Vernon Lee as a cultural mediator between Italy and Great Britain. Mario Praz.

The reception of British Aestheticist and Decadent authors in Italy.
RECEPTION AND REWRITING OF MYTHS
Classical mythology in the fin de siècle and early twentieth century; interart, intergenre and intermode studies of modern myths (Tannhäuser, Faust, Saint Sebastian) in the Victorian and late-Victorian period.
INTERART/INTERMEDIAL STUDIES
Interart osmosis in the works of Walter Pater, Oscar Wilde, Vernon Lee, Ernest Dowson, Arthur Symons, and Aubrey Beardsley. The Pre-Raphaelites, with a special focus on D.G. Rossetti as a writer. The genre of the imaginary portrait.
TRANSLATION STUDIES AND PRACTICE
Rhetoric of translation; visual aspects of written texts: ekphrasis and hypotyposis. Anglophone authors translated into Italian include Jane Austen (Pride and Prejudice), G.B. Shaw (Widowers’ Houses and Caesar and Cleopatra), and Vernon Lee (Ottilie).
