Conservation of 20th century architectural heritage requires the development of research trajectories that contemplate knowledge and analysis of the building in its material, constructional and structural components, its formal qualities and its relationship with interior design, while maintaining a strong link between the architecture and its urban and landscape context of reference. The complexity of the research involves multiple disciplinary aspects, ranging from the history of architecture to design, urban planning and enhancement/valorisation strategies. The aim to address the themes of the conservation and valorisation of contemporary cultural heritage, also from an executive point of view, is supported by the involvement of national and international organisations and institutions, which in recent years have distinguished themselves in the field of the conservation and valorisation of 20th century architecture, together with companies able to guarantee, with their know-how, the positioning of the cluster in the sphere of innovative production activities.
The activity of the research cluster experiments with methodologies of knowledge and interpretation of the 20th century heritage, and develops processes that guarantee its preservation and valorisation, in a context of compatible reuse and increasing the resilience of buildings and environments with multi-risk analysis methods, also in relation to climate change and energy efficiency.
One of the goals of the research cluster is to impact on the aspects of education and training, developing studies in the field of new materials and technologies for conservation, and becoming a national and international reference point as a meeting and exchange place for young researchers, architects and engineers for a suitable position on the national and international scientific and production scene.
