The research unit intends to work in the perspective of the transformation of the city into an optimized system of energy production and management for the purpose of achieving internal and external environmental comfort, also considering the architectural and urban implications. To this end, the building-plant system is studied, in order to develop new solutions for a drastic reduction in energy demand by combining the choices related to the envelope with the introduction of innovative energy systems with very high efficiency and based as much as possible on the use of renewable energy. During the activities, issues such as architectural integration, evaluation of final performance, both in terms of energy, comfort and air quality, are also addressed, through calculation models and / or monitoring systems, as well as economic. The research also covers energy networks, both electrical and thermal. Finally, particular attention is paid to monumental buildings subject to protection, in which energy problems and cultural heritage conservation needs coexist.
