Articolo

Abstract:
Lucrezia Borgia as Patron of Architecture in Early Sixteenth-Century Ferrara · The architectural en-terprises of Lucrezia Borgia, once she had arrived in Ferrara as the wife of Alfonso I d’Este, show us how the duchess moved along the traditional lines of action of princesses of that time: this involved both resi-dential and sacred architecture. She set up her luxurious apartments in the Castle and later in the Palazzo di Corte, and she financed the construction of the monastery of the Poor Clares of San Bernardino; near the monastery, she founded a palace which she used as a home during her frequent spiritual retreats and where she managed her economic activities.
