Maida altrimenti: gradini verso il cielo = Maida otherwise: Steps to the sky

Maida is one of those small, perched towns of Calabria that represented a unique environmental context for about a millennium, giving life to a coexistence made up of “a thousand isolations” that today still characterizes the region. In Maida there are numerous traces of the past: the Norman Castle, the southern door Arco of S. Antonio, the Convent of S. Domenico, the Convent of S. Francesco di Paola, the Convent of the Capuchins Friars, all elements that can become engines of the opening of the village to a more contemporary use of its monuments. To break the isolation, a wide range of connections can be identified in order to give life to new and possible centralities, resting and meeting places, entrance for spaces of culture, free time, in proximity to existing historical buildings and convents. New points of interest, small massing, bridgeheads of paths that lead into and out of the village, access passages to the historic centre, palaces, churches, convents, which become living bodies, incorporate the territory that surrounds them and in the same time are incorporated from it. Small architectures, but significant sentinels, that indicate that something in Maida has changed.
