The article explores the visual strategies of montage at stake in Gerhard Richter's Atlas, a visual archive which has been created by the artist since 1962. The procedure of visual montage is considered as a visual strategy capable of dealing with the semantic horizon of trauma and mnemonic elaboration in post-war Germany.
