Abstract:
‘Spaces of Tourism. Design, Architecture, and Landscape of Travel’ is the first in a trilogy of international workshops dedicated to exploring the complex relationship between tourism and the city. Held between Genoa and Sestri Levante in the summer of 2024, the program was promoted within the framework of the Ulysseus European University alliance.
The workshop and the research activities brought together students and faculty from five European universities in an intensive educational and design experience aimed at fostering critical reflection on travel, tourism, and their economic, spatial, and symbolic implications. This book presents a selection of the projects and the theoretical results developed during the research activities. These contributions offer new perspectives on the spatial, social, and economic dynamics of contemporary tourism, proposing a design-oriented approach to reimagining the travel experience in European contexts.
