Integrating Seismic Resilience and Circular Economy: The Role of Cold-Formed Steel in Sustainable Construction.

Abstract:
This study positions Cold-Formed Steel (CFS) at the intersection of seismic resilience, sustainability, and durability. The study describes CFS benefits in recyclability, waste reduction through industrialisation, and lower embodied carbon but lightweight fabrication and efficient transport. The paper refers to how Building Information Modeling (BIM) based design supports accurate production and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) integration, while detailing and Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) strategies enable near-real-time post seismic evaluation. Using case studies (Casa in Acciaio Modena and San Nicolao), the paper proposes practice-oriented suggestions that marries circular-economy principles with digital workflows for sustainable urban regeneration.
