Abstract:
The intersection of media and the environment redefines both notions: media shape the worlds we inhabit, while nature itself emerges as a set of dynamic media. At this crossroads lies a fragile balance between mediation and catastrophe, when elemental forces exceed human control. Taking Artavazd Peleshyan’s Nature (2020) as its point of departure, the paper explores the idea of a nature nonindifferent to itself, reinterpreting Sergei Eisenstein’s aesthetics of composition and nonindifference.
