Raccolta e gestione dell’acqua meteorica nella Venezia storica. Il sistema pozzo-campo-tetto e le pavimentazioni in masegni, proto soluzioni nature-based = Water storage and rainwater management in ancient Venice: the system well-field-roof and the stone paving, first Nature-based Solutions

abstract:
Venice had not fresh water available, nor for hygienic and production uses. In order to live in the lagoon and its islands, the first Venetians invented the Venetian well, a smart system capable of intercepting, accumulating and filtering the rain water in a way similar by natural soil.
Nowadays the wells no longer manage rainwater. The rainwater management is done only by paving and roofs. The historical construction technique of trachyte paving still guarantees the best urban water cycle, as well as the preservation of the stone. Venetian wells and trachyte paving are proto-examples of NbS-Nature-based Solutions, which our cities greatly need.
