abstract:
This short contribution intends to recall Vanni Pasca’s role in advancing the design historiographical debate in Italy between the 1990s and 2010s, as seen through the lens of AIS/Design, Associazione Italiana Storici del Design, of which he was co-founder and first president (2009-2014). The aim is especially to highlight the centrality, in his thinking, of issues such as the disciplinary autonomy of design history and the need for critical and methodological debate, the importance of training design historians, and the relevance of design history to the education of designers and to the discussion of contemporary design’s expansion and meaning.
