The technological advances of recent decades and the integration of disciplines such as architectural technology and preservation are progressively improving the culture of design in the conservation of modern and contemporary architectural heritage. Methodological approach. An overview of the state of the art research from a methodological and operational point of view allows to address the issues regarding the intervention on Modern works, pointing out innovative strategies that adopt knowledge contamination as a conservation tool. The study particularly investigates aspects related to the durability and restoration of exterior glazed enclosures as distinctive elements of architectural research and of 20th century technical and technological experimentation. The research is focused on the effects that a relatively short time interval (50-100 years) has produced on a large number of buildings, stimulating a discussion both on the role of technology in the conservation of exemplary cases of Modern heritage and on potential impacts of this phenomenon on the so-called minor heritage, offering tools to support a widespread improvement campaign that represents one of the most demanding challenges of the coming decades.
