abstract:
Starting from the dataset just published related to underwater structures attested in
the Treporti Channel pertaining to a possible ancient road, the contribution proposes new
hypothesis for the archaeological evidence in the light of ancient itineraries known in the
Roman literary sources and of Medieval notarial documents, both linked to the Venice La-
goon. Th e article aims at recognizing the importance of ancient routes in a wider perspec-
tive, that will connect the underwater structures within the ancient harbour of Altinum
and the Roman settlements in the Venice Lagoon.
