abstract:
The paper aims at reading some paragraphs of the Ab urbe condita of Titus Livius, that are dedicated to the Venice Lagoon, thanks to the archaeological remains attested in this area. Starting from the arrival of the Greek Cleonimus in the Venetian coasts, the paper proposes a reassessment of the historical data already known in light of the new archaeological findings in the current site of Malamocco, near the
Lido of Venice, both for the Preroman age and for the Roman period, in particular in the Augustan time. The ancient landscape outlined from the Titus Livius pages and from the archaeological discoveries looks like really different from today and it contributes to prefigure news researches for this variable and amphibious context.
