On responsibility: The moving image questions spectatorship

Each of the works examined by the various authors here, questions the responsive dimension in which the viewer finds themself. None attempt to cancel or disregard the viewer’s presence. What is questioned, what these moving images invite one to reflect upon, is the very status of spectatorship, especially when the gap becomes apparent, with no way to bridge it and make it back; the situation in which symbolic exchange is rendered inoperative. The various works highlighted in this volume challenge this distancing, offering a critical reflection to the thwarted exchange.
