L’isola di Venezia con più di trenta chiese chiuse, abbandonate, inutilizzate è oggi un caso nazionale. La vocazione di riutilizzo di questo sistema di spazi sarebbe naturalmente quella espositiva. Anche questa vocazione racconta la capacità di questi manufatti di coincidere con il destino di Venezia: un museo a cielo aperto. Si verifica invece la possibilità, dopo una mappatura fisica e fotografica dei casi, che questi luoghi possano diventare spazi della produzione immateriale. Un ritorno alla Venezia produttiva di ottocentesca memoria, che vuole prospettare un vero e proprio cambio di paradigma a partire da questo sistema policentrico capace di innervare tutto il sistema urbano. Le ipotesi di riutilizzo investigate si muovono non solo all’interno dei vincoli linguistico e spaziali dettati dall’architettura, ma anche all’interno di quelli giuridici: la disciplina urbanistica, il regime giuridico del pubblico demanio, la tutela del patrimonio culturale e la tutela della destinazione d’uso al culto cattolico.
The island of Venice, with more than thirty churches closed, is now a case of national interest. The vocation of reuse of these buildings would naturally be that of exhibition spaces. Even this vocation would coincide with the destiny of Venice: an open-air museum. After the physic and photographical mapping of these places, it seems possible that they become spaces of immaterial production. A return to the productive Venice, as in the nineteenth century, to prospect a real change of paradigm, able to innervate the entire urban system. The investigated hypothesis of reuse moves not only within linguistic and spatial constraints dictated by the architecture, but also within legal constraints: land-use plans, the legal regime of the public domain, the protection of cultural heritage and the protection of the destination to Catholic cult.
