The essay aims to introduce the topic of the book and the essays of the
various authors of which the book is composed. The essays present the results
of research carried out in the Department of Architecture and Arts around
the general subject of the city, the specific transformation of infrastructure
and settlements of its territories, the ways of its continues construction and
reconstruction. Do research on the city means having to know its signs,
distinguishing figures in the jumble of its sediments, recognizing its forms even
if they appear unreadable or lost in the today’s condition of the metropolitan
systems. Make plans for the city means to express an opinion on the form of
reality, define a scope of in-depth knowledge and a place for exploration of
the possible solutions to a given problem. In the end, make plans for the city
means doing research on the city.
