La laguna sud di Venezia, fra archeologia e archivio

Investigations on the history of ancient settlements in the southern lagoon of Venice are currently rather scarce, due also to the remarkable geo-environmental changes that have affected this sector of the Venetian basin. Especially after the completion of the diversion from the lagoon of the Brenta river through the so-called ‘Novissimo’ in 1610, and the subsequent anthropic activities in the valley areas, the awareness of the complexity of that landscape has been lost, flattening its profile and evolutionary history. Starting with a reappraisal of the archival and archaeological data highlighted in previous research, compounded with the information deduced from recent discoveries, we will present some considerations on the dynamics of lagoon settlement over the centuries.
