Teoria della gibigiana

Academic Article
Publication Date:
2025
abstract:
Have you ever seen the “gibigiana”? It is a peculiar play of light, commonly found in Venice and other cities built on water, whereby the reflection of light on the canals projects abstract, moving images onto nearby surfaces. Beyond any scientific description, the gibigiana does not match a mathematical formula. It immediately invites other perspectives. In this article I examine the gibigiana as a “theoretical object” in order to explore the relationship between media and the environment. Instead of offering a fully developed theory, I sketch an open-ended reflection on this phenomenon. My working hypothesis considers the gibigiana as a boundary event where physics, biology, perception, and imagination meet and challenge one other.
