Le geste entre répétition et révolution. D’Antigone de Sophocle à Motus, en passant par Bertolt Brecht et le Living Theatre

Chapter
Publication Date:
2025
abstract:
This article proposes a reflection on the gesture of Antigone through the crucial
stages which have underpinned the relationship between tradition and innovation
during the 20th century and the 2000s: from the tragic origin (Sophocles), passing
through Bertolt Brecht and the Living Theatre to arrive at the Italian group Motus
with his project Syrma Antigónes and especially the show Alexis. Una tragedia greca.
Antigone’s gesture reveals its ambiguity between descent and revolt in a dense network of quotations, imitations, repetitions, variations that make up the metatheatrical quality of Motus’ work.
