Abstract:
Urban green spaces are essential elements in all type of cities, providing several environmental benefits as well as beneficial effects on inhabitants' physical and men-tal health. In a time of societal crisis and prolonged lockdowns with stay-at-home orders the relationship between humans and public spaces, in terms of use and percep-tion, is changed. People modified their behaviors and noted the importance of some aspects related to design and maintenance of green spaces as the connection or the need to prepare a management plan of all green spaces. Within this context, rating systems for neighborhood can help to evaluate the sustainability performance of a plan and the ensure that these spaces are properly planned and managed.
In this paper are analyzed two different rating systems to evaluate their guidelines about urban green spaces: Gbe quartieri and Itaca a Scala Urbana. The first, with a point scheme, allots credits for neighborhood design features, and integrates the envi ronment, infrastructures, and buildings for the creation of sustainable communities with a relationship net and a pre-existence connection. The "haca a Scala Urbana" procedure consists of a multicriteria evaluation of the environmental sustainability and the compilation of a group of worksheets, one for each different internal perfor-mance indicator.
The results show that what is requested by the population during the pandemic period is reflected in the certification systems.
