Academic Article
Publication Date:

abstract:
[EN] Wunderkammer, literally ‘room of wonders’ or ‘cabinet of curiosities’, is a term usually used to indicate the space in a residence dedicated to the collection of artifacts and rare specimens. In some ways, it could be considered a precursor of the concept of the museum, an array of items initially devoid of any systematic appearance – a configuration it would acquire in the Enlightenment – and an early expression of scientific collecting. The lemma, if seen in a broad sense, has ancient roots, as it is linked to the act of ‘collecting’. The essay critically addresses some aspects of the theme of illusion through the examination of the project for the Brixen Music School, highlighting the relationship between different disciplines such as town planning, architecture, engineering and art.
