La dignità del vuoto = The dignity of the void

[IT] Quando si parla di architettura spesso capita di concentrarsi sui molti aspetti che identificano un linguaggio o uno stile specifico, mettendo in secondo piano l’importanza e il valore della forma dello spazio –sia interno, sia esterno– e le qualità, ma soprattutto la dignità, che il progetto del vuoto conferisce a ogni manufatto. Parlare in modo essenziale del vuoto scosta, deviandole, la totalità delle regole progettuali e la maniera della composizione, obbligando chi disegna lo spazio a tornare a ragionare sull’armonia scientifica del vacuo. È un esercizio di potenza, che implica una disciplina con una forte idea di fondo capace di dominare i rapporti di forma in architettura. Il saggio affronta criticamente alcuni progetti recenti di Eric Lapierre e Felgendreher Olfs Köchling accomunati dalla ricerca inerente al tema della monumentalità dei “grandi contenitori”. La posizione teorica dello scritto tende a ragionare sul significato dello spazio “vacuo” in architettura e delle differenti applicazioni dello stesso. [EN] When we speak of architecture, it often happens that we focus on the many aspects that identify a specific language or style, overshadowing the importance and value of the form of space - both interior and exterior - and the qualities, but above all the dignity, that the design of the void confers on each artefact. To speak in an essential way of the void deviates the totality of design rules and the manner of composition, forcing those who design space to return to reasoning on the scientific harmony of the void. It is an exercise in power, implying a discipline with a strong underlying idea capable of dominating the relations of form in architecture. The essay critically discusses some recent projects by Eric Lapierre and Felgendreher Olfs Köchling that share the research inherent in the theme of the monumentality of ‘large containers’. The theoretical position of the essay tends to reason about the meaning of the ‘empty’ space in architecture and its different applications.
