abstract:

The contribution presents an analysis of the domestic space as a site for reappropriating identity through an in-depth examination of two films: 3-Iron – The Empty House (2004) by Kim Ki-duk and Vive l'Amour (1995) by Tsai Ming-liang. These films, connected by their portrayal of transient existences within temporary dwellings, provide significant insights into the ways individuals affirm and negotiate their identities—whether represented, corporeal, or political—within the domestic space as a privileged site for such exploration. The video narrative helps isolate the unfolding of these dynamics, highlighting how architecture and research on dwelling contribute to a deeper understanding of the contemporary inhabitant's needs.
