Abstract:
This essay is divided into two parts. The first part is a summary of some of the trends urban tourism. In particular, they develop some evidence that urge us to update our definitions of 'tourist', replacing it with the idea of 'visitors', whose vagueness is best suited to the variety of motivations that drive people to move from their places of residence. According to the latest theories on urban tourism, this conceptual dislocation is part of the symbolic economy - in which the experiences take on economic value - and is associated with the increasing importance that cultural activities take on the fate of urban centers.
The second part describes some effects of these processes in the city of Milan.
