Il progetto di espansione dell’aeroporto Bao'an di Shenzhen

Academic Article
Publication Date:
2012
abstract:
The Shenzhen Boa’an International Airport in the fourth largest Chinese airport after Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. The infrastructure, which is located 32 m northwest of the city centre, is currently involved in a expansion process that has led to the construction of a second runway and which is proceeding with the completion of the new Terminal 3, planned for the year 2035. The project is the result of a design competition by invitation – won in 2008 by Italian architects Massimiliano and Doriana Fuksas – for the realization of Terminal 3, which will become the new gateway to Shenzhen and an architectural icon for the Chinese city. The project, which occupies as privileged site on the coast, began after a landfill project completed by the municipal government of Shenzhen, which made it possible to reclaim a surface of 11,89 square kilometers, some of it stolen from the sea. The terminal features an extensive view onto the outdoors and a double enclosure of steel and glass with great visual impact, the unifying element of the entire architectural work. When construction is completed, the new terminal will have a capacity of 45 million passengers.
