Spettri. Un repertorio di forme comuni

The first residency of the "Viaggio in Italia" program, "Spettri", brought together fifteen students of the Master in Photography at the Iuav University of Venice with Jacopo Benassi, an artist whose work with photography, performance and sound often centres on himself and his body. At the same time, it gave the students the opportunity to get to know a place, Villa Manin, approaching it from an architectural, landscape and human point of view. Over the course of the fifteen-day residency, each student focused on a specific aspect: from documentation of the interior of the villa under restoration to that of the exterior, also investigating from a naturalistic perspective, close to macrophotography; from portraits of those living in the nearby Friulian countryside to a series of self-portraits in settings. In this process the images acted as binding elements and the relational procedures generated a repertoire of common forms.
