Academic Article
Publication Date:
2013
abstract:
The content of this paper is a new proposal of reconstruction of Laocoon, the lost tragedy by Sophocles, The bind of the scanty surviving fragments, compared with other mythological sources, allows us to restore a possible plot of the tragedy. The Sophoclean drama probably did not revolve around the death of the priest of Troy, as in the Vergilian version, but around the death of his sons: Laocoon, in the tragical version, married and had sons instead of the divine inhibition and so he and his wife were punished by Apollo.
