abstract:
This paper introduces Visualizing Venice, a project conceived to test the application of new information technologies to urban history with two purposes in mind. On the one hand, it seeks to provide scholars with new knowledge and research tools that are different from traditional means, such as primary and secondary sources. On the other, it hopes to create new forms of communication through which historians can help non-specialists or a general public of different ages and backgrounds understand research on urban history.
