Care and craftsmanship as a slow approach to built heritage : Quality and intervention: tradition and innovation = La cura e il saper fare come approccio lento al patrimonio costruito : qualità e intervento: tradizione e innovazione

Academic Article
Publication Date:
2022
abstract:
Does it make any sense discussiong the role of building tradition in Heritage Preservation in digital times, when virtual is getting the better of materiality and a fast drive towards future marks any process? The paper aims at seizing pros and cons of a care-for approach to built Heritage basing on traditional know-how, that is the local material culture providing any historical place with a peculiar character. Venice turns out to be an effective, though not exclusive test-bed for some experiments, now in progress, resorting to the traditional artisan skills and updating the idea of tradition, as a complementary option to the expected innovation. The research is a sort of countertrend that requires long term investments of human and material resourches. It pursues quality through a slow and careful maintenance approach, working for the permanence of the exhisting buildings and opposing the still ongoing practice of improper renewals.
