Dalla Russia alla Biennale di Venezia: Il Recupero della città industriale di Vyshny Volochok

The Soviet town of Vyshny Volochok, located approximately mid-way distance between Moscow and Saint Petersburg, developed under the regime of Peter the Great as an important stop off on the commercial and cultural exchanges route between the two cities. The industrial decline of the town started with the end of the Soviet empire, provoking the creation of vast "empty" zones within the historical layout of the town. The Russian Pavillon at the 12th In- ternational Architecture Biennale in Venezia today proposes an interesting model of intervention at urban scale aiming at re-functionalising the case-study town, replicable and adaptable in many other towns in Russia.
