Per una nuova edizione critica del testo della conferenza di Warburg a Kreuzlingen (21 aprile 1923). Note preliminari e un saggio dell’edizione critica dell’incipit e dell’explicit del testo Bilder aus dem Gebiet der Pueblo-Indianer in Nord-Amerika

This contribution is a kind of snapshot of the first phase of the research work carried out over the last year (since April 2022) by the Mnemosyne Seminar around the text of The Serpent Ritual, a research resulting in in the publication of issue 201 of “Engramma” (April 2023). As regards the philological part of the research, the planned outcome of a second phase of the work is the publication of a critical edition of the text of Bilder aus dem Gebiet der Pueblo-Indianer in Nord-Amerika - the lecture Aby Warburg gave on 21 April 1923 at the Bellevue Clinic in Kreuzlingen to the clinc’s doctors, nurses and guests, commenting on some slides of his 1895-1896 American trip to the Pueblo Indians. In this contribution we present some of the preliminary prodromal notes to the complete critical edition of the text, an essay of the critical edition of the lecture text including the incipit (Einleitung, §§1-11), and the final paragraph (Schluss, §131). In the Appendix, we publish the complete text of the edition published in the Warburgian sylloge Werke in einem Band, edited by Martin Treml, Sigrid Weigel and Perdita Ladwig, Berlin 2010, with the addition of paragraph numbering useful for orientation and infratestual references.
