OBJECTIVE:
SKYCORE develops an European steel-based solution for the core construction of Tall Buildings (height between 90 and 300m) as alternative to existing concrete-based technology. Key concept is to substitute the traditional building core system used over 50 years with an innovative system with increased technical and environmental performance.
EXPECTED RESULTS:
1) Dramatic decrease of construction time of Tall buildings (target -50%), reducing therefore the social & environmental impact
2) Improvement of structural efficiency, permitting building form optimization and higher reliability and resilience levels
3) Increasing architectural efficiency, thanks to reduced structural element size, therefore improving the building area usage
ACTIVITIES:
- Analysis of realistic case studies followed by parametric studies to optimize the new structural component
- Development of an erection concept able to achieve the targeted construction speed
- Experimental test under static loads, quasi-static loads accompanied by numerical simulations to characterize the structural behaviour under static, dynamic, fire and exceptional loads
- Set the basis for the introduction of the system in European standardisation framework and construction practice
BENEFICIARIES:
- Architects and Engineers, as it widens the field of possible configurations
- Steel industry and steel contractors, as high-end steel products will substitute large volumes of concrete
- Building owners and users, as ratio net carpet area / gross building surface will increase
- Environment, thanks to an improved LCA of new tall buildings
- Society, thanks to reduced impact of new Tall buildings construction in urban areas
OUTPUT:
- Design Guidelines, aid tools, BIM objects as deliverable for practitioners for use in real project
- Technical document describing how to introduce the new system in the standards
