Abstract:
In this contribution, I explore the role of listening practice and of everyday sounds in multi-species forms of coexistence. Going beyond anthropocentrism, I draw atten- tion to voices and sounds that emerge from the relationship between humans, non- humans and materialities, thus addressing the political possibility of a multi-species sonic ecology. Introducing the concept of attunement, I suggest ways in which critical listening can be a powerful tool to resonate with humans as well as other-than- humans, and an effective way to engage these bodies through creative and critical forms of togetherness. To this end, I question to what extent a multi-species sonic ecology can challenge the way urban policies are analyzed and designed, laying the groundwork for future political imagination.
