The actual design process in elaborating a solution (problem solving), starting from the definition of a problem (problem setting), overlooks the uncertainty of both the internal variables (vulnerability of the demand) and of the external ones (environmental, social, economic vulnerability), to which the project, at different scales (open, closed, product), is required to respond. Considering uncertainty as part of the design process, and adaptability as a requirement to be incorporated into design actions at various scales to support the resilience capacity of the project, represents an alternative approach.
