La sinagoga di Hurva di Louis I. Kahn

The project for the reconstruction of the Hurva synagogue in Jerusalem, destroyed during the Arab-Israeli war in 1948, was for Kahn a great opportunity to face an extremely characterized historical context. The rapport with the urban fabric and the idea of enclosing ruins within a compact architectural envelope were common aspects of all the different design proposals developed by him across the years, before the project got abandoned after his death.
