The reasoning rules of (forensic) science

Probability theory can be interpreted as a system of rules for coherent behaviour in un uncertain environment. Bayes’ theorem is a rule for making educated guesses and learning from experience, and it is a fundamental tool of scientific reasoning. The odds form of the theorem offers a way of measuring the relative weight of support given by evidence to alternative hypotheses that fits very well with the main task of forensic science.
