Abstract:
The contribution intends to address the compositional issues raised in two projects built by Suzana and Dimitris Antonakakis, better known as Atelier 66. The first case concerns the house-atelier on Benaki Sreet in Athens (1972-1975), located on the slopes of Strefi Hill, from which Le Corbusier drew the north side of the Acropolis. An Athenian ‘polykatoikia’, manifesto of their idea of architecture for the city, which contains the studio and the archive of Atelier 66 in its basement. The second case is the Alikianos holiday house (1974), a place of summer otium immersed in an orange grove not far from Heraklion, Crete. The two examples are the way to investigate a way to make architecture reinterpreting a tradition made of forms, figures, memories, and matter, which is intrinsically linked to the Greek land.
