Abstract:
A reading of the heritage of quarries in the Apuan Alps highlights the tension between the preservation of the landscape and the environment, both of which are enshrined in Article 9 of the Italian Constitution. On the one hand, the marble quarrying industry represents the historical and cultural identity of the area, while on the other hand, there is a conflict between traditional mining practices and landscape management when placed in the broader context of renewable energy technologies.
The text proposes a holistic approach to understanding the Apuan quarry context from the perspective of land management that balances cultural values and strategies to enhance the landscape.
